English 8:     In English 8 students will study the eight parts of speech as well as the parts of a sentence. We will do spelling on a regular basis as well as the 6 minute solution. A variety of literature will be incorporated including short stories, poetry and non-fiction. We will read The Diary of Anne Frank and write a formal research paper pertaining to WWII using MLA format.

English 9:     Intensive study of words functioning as each of the eight parts of speech(nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepostions, conjunctions, and interjections) will be our primary focus. Students will also develop the five paragraph essay:  the introduction--body--conclusion formula Additionally, students will analyze the plot diagrams of a number of short stories. They will study Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and To Kill a Mockingbird.
English 11/ Language Arts/ British Literature:     This course will expose students to writers and selections of British literature. It will include poetry and drama. Students will cover authors from the Anglo-Saxon period, Medieval period, the Renaissance, to the present. Students will learn about the elements of British Literature and the basics of writing, research, grammar, and usage. Students will read two novels by British authors outside of class time and two additional novels upon teacher approval. Students will read and study Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, numerous sonnets and Shakespeare's Hamlet, to name a few.
